I recently brought a set of heads into Jiffy/Carquest auto parts for them to clean and check out, I spoke with a Larry (come to find out the owner) when I dropped them off. I explained that I just wanted them checked for surface and cleaned, after waiting over a week I got a call from the machinist explaining to me that the cams were flat and had to be replaced! And to do all the work needed would be $1274.00!! Are you kidding me? I stated that new heads from Heads International were $325 a piece BRAND NEW! Larry stated that he had never heard of that company (there only the largest distributor to named auto parts houses like shucks, oriley, napa etc. Etc.). I asked for my heads back and what I owed for the work done so far, and he stated that it was $195.00 I was completely distraught, I asked why and he said they had cleaned them and that was the charge, There was a lot more that entailed but it would take three pages to put down. So today when I went to pick up the heads there was NOTHING done, there not even clean! This place is a total rippoff, and I would warn anyone not to go there. I even called PeckHam Precision machine Works here in town and asked what it would cost to clean and surface a set of heads and he stated $47.00 a head, thats only $94.00 total which is a far cry from $195.00 and they probably would actually have done something.
