Went there for SMOG check. First impression was Tim is a good guy, but Dan is a very mean guy. I saw Jessie, Tim, and Dan there, only Tim talked with smile (like the official website shows). Dan is mean, no smile, rude, and demanding. Jessie acted cool and talk-less.
Actually they are charging $70 for SMOG (reg) check, it is super over priced! Usually the reg SMOG check is about $29~$39 everywhere. Plus, other places will offer 2nd check for free if you fail on first time. NOT in Dan's Mobil. They put a $20 coupon ad on the website and local newspaper, and flyers, and they tell you the coupon is valid, but they do not tell you how much they usually charge. You realize they original charge for $70, and $50 after coupon after you done the checking.
Besides overpriced, my engine light was on I did not noticed, but they still do the SMOG anyway without telling me the engine light was on. They did saw the engine light was on, and the common sense says the SMOG will fail if the engine light was on. They did the test real fast, and tell me it was failed, and charge me $41 with their so called "$20 discount". I felt like I paid $41 for nothing, and that is not cool.
He could just tell me that "your engine light is on, and it will not pass the SMOG. Do you want us to check your car first?" They didn't do that. They just run the test anyway.
I know they knew my engine light was on because one guy told me after I paid. He said "yeah, it is failed because your engine light was on, it is connect to the system, and the system will not allow your car to pass the test." I asked him "Did you know my engine light was on before you start the test?" He said yes. I asked him why not tell me. He said because I asked for SMOG check, and they follow my instruction and do it.
I admit it was my fault and my failure by not checking my engine light before I run the check. But if they also noticed that engine light was on, they should have let me know before they process the SMOG check because it will fail anyway, they don't even need to run the process and they knew it will fail. I call it dishonest and unethical.
After they charged me over priced "failure SMOG check", they do not offer me check again for free (which other places usually would offer).instead, persuade me to get my car fix there, and they also quoted me several minor stuff that they suggested me to fix. For example engine hood lifer, power wheel fluid, and something else I don't remember. He is trying to charge me power wheel fluid refill for $35, and labor for doing it $95. It is ridicules price! I could get it almost anywhere for free! Or fluid fee only. $95 for changing that is simply rip off! Even dealership is cheaper than that. For Engine Hood Lifter, I once wanted to replace, but every other auto repair shop suggested me not to replace them because they are expensive and they are most likely going to break again within 1 year. It is how it is, simply bad design. Even dealership suggested me not to replace. Dan'd Mobil is the only one asked me to replace them. Anyway, it is what happened to me, and I hope it won't happen to others.
