Credit Acceptance Corp in Detroit, Mi
Wrongful repo

This has been a horrible experience for us. It started a year when my daughters car was totaled and we went in search of a new one for her. We found a local dealer that approved my husband for a loan through Credit Acceptance.

My daughter had a broken ankle at the time and was until to drive the car for several months. Once she did start driving it, there were problems with the car one after another.

First it wouldn't start for her sometimes leaving her stranded at work or at school. Other times it dashboard would flash, or the keyfob wouldn't work, or the tire pressure light would come on.

We were told when we purchased the vehicle that we would be able to request a due date change once we received the payment book. Well we called to request the change and were told no way, that they do not change due dates. Our due date was the 20th, our pay date is the 3rd. You can see how this was going to create a problem. So what we did was pay a little bit more than the regular payment so that we would eventually be caught up ahead and would be paying for the payment due on the 20th of the month on the 3rd of that month almost 3 weeks early.

Bam! Wintertime, car won't start, call Credit Acceptance no it was not turned off. Okay buy a new battery, car started but the next week same problem. Took car to a dealer and they check it out and say they can't find any reason why the car won't start but that there is a major engine problem with the antifreeze leaking into the manifold. Wah? So they call our warently people and the do approve a repair. Okay got that fixed for the 100 deductible.

About two months later daughter calls, car won't start again. What the heck? Okay after several attempts at jump starting it finally starts. We drop the car off at the dealer. After several days they call us to say the car won't start. Um yeah we knew that. So we call Credit Acceptance and while the car was in the shop they had turned the ignigtion off with the GPS security system they have attached to the car. Yes we were late with the payment. As stated above we couldn't pay until the 3rd of the following month. So they turn on the car with a 24 hour emergency turn on. Dealer checks out car and calls us to report that the ignigtion is bad. And it would be 750 to repair and it not covered by our warrenty. What? We had no choice but to have it repaired. Okay pick up car a few days later pay the fees and on our way.

But wait, here it is two months later. The car gets turned off by Credit Acceptance. Yes it was a late payment. But after making the payment by western union and provided the MCTN they turned the car back on hrms. Car won't start, call again, they send the signal again, car still won't start, then electrical burning smell comes from car. I make daughter take out key and get out of the car. We call Credit Acceptance again, explain what is going on and that now nothing is working no lights, no bells, no anything since they sent the signal. Credit Acceptance tells us to contact the dealer and explain to him that their seems to be a problem with the GPS system. I call the dealer and he said it wouldn't take 10 months for a problem to show up and he installs these systems all the time. So we call Credit Acceptance again, they told us to take car to dealer, car won't start so dealer has it towed by a company they use. Okay, dealer says the ignition is fried and the GPS shorted it out. And that it will be 750 to get it fixed. We just had this problem fixed two months ago. Dealer says he will call back. Calls back and says GM will repair the ignition free but they won't pay for towing and we would have to pay the 80.00. Well daughter needed the car for school and work so we paid the 80 bucks.

And now three weeks later daughter starts new job, 45 mins away from home. First week on the job she comes out of work for dinner break and her car is gone! People with whom she works say they saw a car matching her describtion being towed earlier. Talk about embarassing?!! Heck yeah! And the tow truck driver had trouble, first he drug the car with the nose scrapping across the lot, then he cut some wires from under the car then hooked up the car the other end and it drug the rear of the car badly and kept on driving. Um if the car was that late why not just turn the car off like Credit Acceptance had done twice before? Oh wait, let humilate the 18 year that drives it and sneak in and take from the parking lot where she works for a major nationwide company and really stick it to them. Oh no flat bed needed we will drag the car around until its totalled and then try to auction it for the lowest price possible?

So daughter calls me hysterical, after I finially understand what she is saying I tell her to let me call Credit Acceptance. So I did and when I called the message says if your car has been repoed. Press one. I knew thats what had happened once I got that message. I pressed numbers and finally reached a person. The conversation was not nice, she is like well your payment of May 3rd was returned. Yes I knew this. I try to tell her I have made payment since May 3rd I made one this month on June 3rd, She says mame argueing with me will not make this any easier. I explained I wasn't arugueing but informing her that her information was not accurate or upto date. She says hold on. After a few minutes she comes back and said car was wrongfully repoed. WTH? So my daughter was totally humiliated at a new job for no reason. She was going away for the weekend with her bags in the car, her medication, her money, her gift cards from graduation. I asked her if she would have them return the car. She said they were closed and there was nothing she could do until Monday. Omg. That the payment I made was not credited to our account because the person that took our information on June 3rd failed to forward the information so that account could be updated.

So why if you could turn our car off so it wouldn't start several times before did you just not do that this time? Had it been turned off I would have known there was a problem and called right away. Had we received a letter I would have called right away, Had we received a phone call I would have know instantly there was a problem and been able to avoid all this confusion and harrasment. My daughter is scarred for life now due to this and we still don't have our car that was wrongfully repoed. And what of the damage done to the car by the tow truck driver? What about my daughters creditbility at her job?

Credit Acceptance is a terrrible company to work with. They are always right. They think all their customers are deadbeats that have bad credit cause they don't pay their bills. Well some day karma will come back to you and when it does I hope I am there to see it. Some people have bad credit due to identity theft, or medical bills that insurance didn't cover, or a family member that screwed them and they didn't want to press charges against them. Its not all black and white. And you have a sub-prime loan because you ruined your credit. I just hope none of these things happen you any of you.
