I bought a 1998 Volkswagen Beetle on August 15th with 6200 miles from Walkers Used Subaru. The first week, I had to get the oil changed, because the car was bone-dry, I also had to get the radio activated, and have the front grill fix, because the dealership never fixed it, like they documented on my paperwork.
The first month and half I had the car, the Check Engine Maintenance Light, came on my dash. Since the dealership did not provide with an Owners Manual, I called Volkswagen, they told me I had to bring in the car for a "Tune-up." On October 29th my radio completely died in my car, I decided to check www.carfax.com about my vehicle, and it turns out that the odometer was rolled back 12,000 miles. And the vehicle was announced and purchased as a Fleet Vehicle, which they did not disclose.
I contacted the dealership, and faxed them over all the paperwork from carfax.com. About an hour later, I received a phone call from James Capatansy, who identified himself as the General Sales Manager. He told me that carfax was not the bible, and that this was simply an error. He also told me that the Motor Vehicle Inspection done on the car in New York was not reliable, and that the information I had was wrong. Also, he told me that this has happened before, and that they would call the Auction House where they purchased the car.
I looked up the title history, the next day, on the web, through two different agencies. I contacted James again, to let him know of my findings. He then told me that he had contacted the Auction, and that they were calling the Auction House where they purchased the car. Didn't know that either. I requested all the odometer readings, which he blew off, then told me that he contacted Volkswagen, and the odometer readings match, but never offered or mentioned to issue me the paperwork. James then told me that he would contact the Auction later that afternoon, and he would get back to me. He also told me that he needs to protect himself and the company, then in mid-conversation asked me what car I drove.
It has now been one week, since my first phone call, they have not called me back, they have not issued me any paperwork. I have now decided to take this a step further. This was suppose to my first car, and I had no problems with the dealership. Now I realize how shady they truly are, and I would hate for anyone to go through the same ordeal as me.
Please help me. I am coming to you, I cannot afford an attorney. And I certainly cannot afford being without car, and I certainly cannot afford to fix a car, that I purchased out of deception. I would have not purchased the car knowing it was a Fleet Vehicle, and knowing it had 20,000 miles on it.
