We have conducted business happily for years with Les Schwab until recently. We took our Ford Explorer in to have the brake pads replaced. Supposedly the rotors also needed done. So, $700 later, the job was complete. The very next day while driving, one of the front brake pads literally fell off. We immediately took it back thinking maybe it was a defective part and they replaced it. So we figured they were still in our good graces. A few months later, we took in our recently purchased Dodge Ram for brakes because the brake warning light came on and they seemed a little soft. The report from the guy who inspected it was that the brake fluid was contaminated, but he couldn't say with what and that EVERYTHING in the brake system needed replaced. Total cost to repair...$2311.00!!! I asked if the system could just be flushed and the seals replaced and was told absolutely not! I had working brakes so I decided I would get a 2nd opinion. When I had an actual mechanic look at it, they said that in the brake reservoir was a mix of old and new brake fluid which was overfilled and that it was in desperate need of changing. There was air in the lines and that was causing the problem. I told him what Les Schwab told me and was told that the problem is that their brake guys get paid commission so it is in their best interest to upsell. He figures that since I was female, they thought I'd be an easy mark. Little did they know I've done minor car repairs myself and would verify anything they told me. So all that needed done to my truck was a system flush and new seals... What I asked for in the first place. On top of that, it cost me a tenth of what Les Schwab wanted to charge me. Needless to say... Schwab will no longer be receiving our business. There are too many scam shops out there and we never expected to run into it with them.
