I purchased a 1995 Dodge Neon with 39,900 miles from Bredemann Chevrolet for $5,000, after my previous vehicle was totaled in an accident. When I originally view and drove the vehicle, I was told it was reconditioned and everything was new (tires, muffler, belts, hoses, spark plugs, etc.). It was in factory certified condition.
Upon test driving it, I noticed a pull to one side and was told it probably needed an alignment and they would take care of it. Eveything else seemed okay with the car and I bought it that day. I would pick up the car the next day after they aligned it and cleaned it up for me to take home. I picked up the car and never noticed if any alignment was done. Everything seemd okay to this point.
Two days after the purchase the vehicle completely died and needed to be towed to the nearest dealership. It turned out it was a faulty feul tank sending unit which registered my vehicle as empty when the tank was actually full.
Two weeks after it was repaired, the car overheated and needed towing again this time to their dealership. The prognosis was that the serpentine belt was bad as was replaced. I was very upset and wanted to return the vehicle. All the dealership would do is give me another used car equal to the Neon's price off of their lot. I didn't like any of their other cars and wanted the Neon (because it has such low miles for the money). Eight months went by with no trouble to my car.
At eight months, I had trouble with the alignment and the car constantly pulling. The tire dealers said I needed 3 new tires. One had a plastic plug stuck in the tire and was leaking. The second, had a bad radial and the third had a slice across the radials and would eventually go bad. It cost me 4 new tires. They said there was no way that these tires were new 8 months prior.
At 12 months the brakes felt funny and upon inspection the vehicle needed new front brakes. While the care was inspected, the mechanic also found a hole in the muffler and biggest of all the head gasket is leaking. The head gasket alone was estimated at an $800 job!
My husband called Bredemann Chevy after the tire issue with my car and spoke with John Bredemann himself and arranged to come there personally to discuss the situation with my car. When he arrived, he spoke with the service manager and not John Bredeman, who basically told him there was nothing they could do and they wouldn't reimburse us for the tires.
Now that my vehicle has needed new front brakes, needs a new muffler and expensive head gasket, something against this dealership must happen and they need to reimburse me for any repair expenses to my vehicle, previously and now forcoming.
I feel they misrepresented the vehicle as "like new condition" and "a factory certified reconditioned car", which it was not from day one.
