When i decided to get my car looked at and repaired i called and priced different repair shops looking for a GM certified machanic. I talked to John Wilbur and said he had a very good GM certified machanic working there. So when i dropped off my car on friday oct. 16th the secretary said everyone is at lunch. So i had no time to wait because i got a ride to drop me back off at home. At around 4:30pm i got a call from john wilbur saying they will start work on my car monday.
Monday i talked to an employee named mark and told him what the problem was and asked him to do a diagnosis. After an hour working on the car he called and said he needed at least another hour to check further. He called me again later that day after he diagnosed the car further and told me the problems he found and what it would cost to fix. The fix included having my heads shaved by a machine shop.
Labor he said would be 1267.00 parts around 600.00. Machine shop charges were at 354.00. Then the next day john wilbur calls me and said the employee mark forgot to add another 20 percent towards machine shop charges. I went in and talked to john wilbur a few day's later to check the status of my car. Thats when he told me that after the car is put back together and fixed he likes to check the car out again and make sure they fixed the problem because he didn't want it coming back. He said that's not the way they do business and wanted to make sure everything was right.
That's when i got suspicous and asked him if he expects to find a problem after he has the car back together? He said well yeah, i need to find out what did the damage to you're parts we are fixing! I asked him isn't that what the diagnostics check was for?
Of course when they had the car back together the same check engine light came on and so did all the problems that i thought were fixed! John wilbur told me not to worry he has his best guy's on it and he wont charge me for looking into the problem and figuring it out for me. I told him im 3,000 dollars into it now and can't afford to pay anymore money, he said that's ok. Finaly after a day of looking for the problem i thought was fixed he said he found a problem with the bottem end of the engine could could fix it for another 2 grand.
I told him i couldn't afford that because i was unemployed and told him to put the car back together and i'll pick it up. When i picked it up i asked him why i should pay for the work he did because he didn't fix the problem and im out over 3,000 dollars and the car in the same shape as when i brought it in? He said he did his part and nothing was his or his mechanics fault. I made a mistake by not getting the initial estimate in writing because i didn't have a car to get to his shop. So he could jack up the price when ever he wanted to.
Not only did he rip me off by not fixing the problem like he said he would for the agreed price. He left my car completely on empty!
