Complaint / Review
Sherwood Park Toyota
Questionable Sales Practices and No Service Edmonton, Canada

I made the mistake of entering this dealership with the intent of purchasing a Rav4. I had done all my research and new exactly what model, etc. That I wanted we simply had to agree on price. After being in the dealership for over 20 minutes with not one salesperson approaching me, I went to the receptionist to ask for a salesperson. The salesperson and I were able to agree on a price and I signed on offer to purchase. The dealership did not have a vehicle in stock nor did I order one. I was told that 40 vehicles were on order and I would find one amongst those. The current deal from Toyota Canada is zero down, zero percent for 36 months.
The salesperson led me to the finance person who then showed me pamphlets on protection packages and asked for a credit card.in hindsight I should have realized the scam was starting then. Why was there any deposit required for a deal that was 0 down, 0% for 36 months? Additionally, they did not have a vehicle in stock - no VIN on the offer to purchase - nor were they ordering a vehicle for me.
The following Tuesday when I spoke with the salesperson I was told that he had a black one coming in the following day. I replied that I don't recall asking for a black Rav4 and would need to see something prior to purchasing. The finance person called the Thursday evening to say that he had a VIN number (much to my surprise since I still had not been called to come see a vehicle) and what protection package did I want. I said that I did not want a protection package after researching the product. He proceeded to tell me that I was purchasing a SUV and did not know what I was doing because everyone with an SUV needed this package. I remained silent as he ranted at which point he hung up the phone when he realized I was not arguing with him.
I waited a half hour and phoned the dealership back to speak with the General Manager. I did not feel that I, as the consumer, had to be spoken to inappropriately and rudely. The GM did not take the call and I got his voicemail. I relayed the events of the phone call with his finance guy and requested that the GM call me back. The following day, Friday, July 24th I called to speak with the General Manager since I had not been called back. I, again, got his voicemail at which time I asked for my deposit to be returned.
The salesperson calls on Saturday morning to say that "my vehicle" is ready to be picked up. I had not even seen this vehicle. I explained to him that I was now dealing with the General Manager and had left the GM some voice messages that had yet to be acknowledged. I receive a call later on that Saturday afternoon from someone else at the dealership claiming to be the finance manager though he had no knowledge of my voice mail. I asked to speak with the GM when he was available.
The General Manager, Art finally phones me the following week and asks me what the problem was. I told him that I had left him voice messages that I thought were clear and would like my deposit back. My business with Sherwood Park Toyota was over. He told me that he had a signed Bill of Sale... News to me since I had not signed one. I told him that he did not have a signed Bill of Sale at which point he said he would contact his legal department.
Month later, no refund, no vehicle and no word from the dealership.
