I found a car I wanted to buy at Northside Toyota and checked the BBB to get their rating. I found it was a D. I had done some email correspondence about the car before checking the BBB so I emailed the dealership and told them I wouldn't be doing business with them because of their rating. I got a call from a manager who left me a message saying that they had changed their ways, management was different, and that I should give them a chance to prove it to me.
I wasn't going to go to them until I found a car that I really liked and decided to see if the manager was a man of his words. I took the car for a test drive, knew the price was good, and said I was going to buy the car. A few minutes later the dealer tells me that the car I test drove was not the one with the price he had quoted. I was going to walk out but I had done research on the internet and I knew that they did have 2 cars that were extremely similar and 1 was about $4K more than the other.
I said that I'd look at the other car. I did, liked it just as much, but being suspicious I indicated that I needed to take it for a test drive before signing anything. I took it for a test drive, liked it, came back and told them I wanted to make a phone call before coming inside.
To make a long story short, they had another guy come in while I was out and he said he'd pay more for the car than asking price which was what I way paying. I reminded them that I was buying the car. I was told that they would straighten things out.
I waited for almost an hour while they "straightened things out". Then I watched the other guy take the keys, leave with another salesman and they gave him the car they made a verbal agreement to sell me.
Needless to say I was livid! The sales manager told me that the agreement they had made with me was for the first car I looked at, the one they mistakenly told me was $4K less than it actually was, and not the one they sold to the other guy. I told them that I had agreed to buy a car with the VIN number that was on the car that they were selling to the other guy and he told me to prove it. I looked at the salesman who I was working with, because he had the paperwork, and he said that he had shredded it! Obviously a complete lie! Who shreds the paperwork in the middle of a transaction?
I was really angry and was expressing this to the sales manager when he actually had the nerve to tell me that I was rude because I was pointing at him! He then started yelling at me and poking his finger in my face! I told him I wanted his card and he said he wouldn't give it to me! I then asked him what his name was and he said, "Sam". When I asked for his last name he wouldn't tell me! And this guy was the sales manager!
Don't even think of going to this dealer! Hopefully after my report to the BBB their business will go from a D to an F. There is a Toyota dealership on the southside of Chicago which is registered with the BBB, accredited, and has a rating of A. I will be doing business with them and if you are looking for a Toyota in the Chicagoland area I highly suggest you do too.
