$4,600 in Glass Damage Done by Wide World of Cars

During the month of April 09 I parked my car in my driveway and was unfortunate enough to have a flowering tree too close to it. The wind blew flowers laden with sap all over my car and the stuff stuck to my paint and glass. I tried getting the stuff off without success so I decided to let the dealership do. After all, I paid them $400 to Teflon coat the vehicle to prevent this from happening in the first place, which obviously doesn't work. The car was scheduled for service the following day, April 29th, so it wasn't a big deal to make them do it and pay the $50 deductible under my finish warranty. I had closely examined the car's windows and paint and there were no scratches in the glass the day before I dropped it off.

The car was at Wide World of Cars until May 6th. During that time they replaced the front windshield, left tires, and cleaned the sap from my paint. I picked the car up and inspected it for any obvious damage, as they had damaged my car on three prior occasions, and I didn't notice anything. I drove the car home and parked it in my garage. The car stayed there for two weeks until I backed it out and washed it. While I was washing the glass on the car I noticed what appeared to be spider webs all over the car's glass except for the new front windshield. After a closer examination, I discovered it wasn't spider webs but deep scratches in the glass. I then realized that Wide World of Cars had scratched the crap out of my car's glass while it was there for service two weeks earlier. Since the car had never left my garage after I picked the car up, I knew the damage occurred at Wide World of Cars. I had washed the car the day before dropping it off at Wide World of Cars so I knew the glass was not scratched before they got their hands on it.in addition, I am the only person who washes the car and it has never been through a car wash, so I know the damage wasn't done on my end. I immediately called Wide World of Cars and spoke to John, whom is one of their managers, and explained to him what they had done to my vehicle. I agreed to meet him the following day to have him examine the vehicle and explain how he was going to fix the damage.

The following day I drive to Wide World of Cars and John examines the damage. After looking at it he states he is not sure of how he is going to handle this. He then states they fired the company who washed their cars right after I picked my car from them, which means he is now on the hook for $4,600 in glass damage. He then agrees that the damage was caused by someone who cleaned the glass, but it wasn't his previous wash company. I explained to him that I washed the car the day before I dropped it off and the damage was not there and the car was garaged after I washed it. The car was garaged after I picked it up and remained there until the day I discovered the scratches. He then says he'll have to get back to me at a later date.

Approximately a week later, I get a phone call from John and he states they are not going to repair the glass damage. He states there is no way it happened at Wide World of Cars, which is nonsense. He stated that I examined the car when I picked it up and I should have said something then, which is BS. When I saw the car it was inside their wash bay and you cannot see the damage unless you take the car out in bright sunlight when it becomes viewable. He didn't want to hear anything, especially when I told him I had already reported the damage to State Farm and they would be suing him. State Farm examined the car and stated the same thing I did, which was some idiot with a buffing wheel scratched the crap out of the glass and now they don't want to pay for it. It is rather odd how all the glass on the car was scratched except for the new front windshield that was put in. It was the only glass they didn't have to clean the sap off of and is why it escaped being scratched.

To add to this story, this wasn't the first time they damaged my car. Last year they scratched the front windshield when they replaced the wiper blades. When I picked the car up I noticed two scratches in the front windshield there were perfect arcs in the glass exactly where the wipers are. It was obvious that someone ran the wipers without any blades in the car's wipers and metal cleats that hold the blade in etched the arcs into the glass. They tried to deny they had done the damage and tried to say a rock did it. After an hour of arguing with them they finally agreed to repair the damage.

When I picked the car up after the repair I noticed there as glass polishing compound all over the interior of the vehicle. The guy who buffed the scratches out of the glass left the windows down and got the polishing compound all over the interior of the car. I then complained again and their service guy, Steve, didn't have any explanation as to how this could have happened. And what was his response of how they were going to correct this? We'll give you a free car detailing, which is BS. I ended up spending 3 hours cleaning the mess up that they didn't want to and still wasn't able to get it all out without replacing the interior parts that couldn't be cleaned.
