Audi's slogan is 'truth in Engineering'. It should be 'Open your wallet when the car gets out of warranty'. My local dealer, Sewickley Audi, missed a crack in the steering rack while I was taking it to them fore service while under warranty. I was in there several times for steering fluid running low and they never found anything wrong. Once it was out of warranty and at an independent shop, they found the crack in the steering rack—about a $1200 repair.
Since it's been out of warranty, here are the repairs I've done. The car has 71,000 miles.
1) 2 steering pumps (due to the cracked steering rack)
2) timing belt
3) battery
4) windshield wiper motor
5) drivers door window switch
6) engine release latch
7) windshield wiper computer chip
8) front wheel bearing
I bought the top of the line Audi A4 Quattro, and am very dissatisfied with this car since it's been out of warranty. Everyone expects normal maintenance, but almost $5000 for a car with 71,000 miles is not acceptable.
