Al Serra Auto Plaza Body Shop
Poor management leads to slow service

I took my car into the bodyshop on Monday. I was hit by a driver in the rear bumper. I was not able to get a full estimate because my bumper would have to be taken off to get a proper estimate, so on Wednesday I was told the extent of the damage, the body shop would have to order some parts I was told, so my car should have been fixed Friday or Monday, but wait the person who did the estimate made a mistake so more parts had to be ordered on Friday, so next Wednesday rolls around and I receive a letter in the mail stating that my car will be guaranteed fixed by that Friday unless parts had to be ordered, etc, so if it was not fixed then they would cover the rental expense from Saturday on. Well, I receive a call on Friday stating that my car is fixed, so it took 10 business days to fix a car that was hit in the rear by a car going 10-20 mph cost around 1000 in damages that's quick service huh?

I pick up my car on Friday around 6:40 pm, body shop closes at 7 pm, I back up and notice that something is wrong with my muffler still, it is making a vibrating and louder noise than before the accident still, so I take the car for a test drive. When I return to the car dealership, the place is closed, and so is Enterprise rent a car, so I decide to return the rental and my car tomorrow, but I get called into work on Saturday, so I return the rental on Monday. I return the car to the body shop the next Thursday and the assistant manager Mr. Sugar states that he agrees with me that something is wrong with the muffler and that the staff should have caught this issue when he/she took the vehicle for a test drive. Well, I leave my car there because no technicians are there, I receive a call the next day around 2 pm that my car is ready to be picked up. I pick up my car that night and ask for a receipt because I was curious what was fixed, but the front desk staff have no answers for me. Well, the muffler sounded better when I took the car for a drive, but it is not 100% like what it sounded like before the accident.

At any rate, when I dropped the rental off at Enterprise, it needed an extension for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. I did not receive one. I give it a few weeks and notice that I received a bill for the compelete expense for Saturday-Monday for the rental car. I call up Al Serra and talk to the manager of the body shop Joe Del Sesto. A long story short I thought that Al Serra should give me an extension for Saturday - Monday, or pay the rental expense from Saturday - Monday because my car was not fixed as promised because I brought my car back to be repaired. After a few hours he called me back and says that he will not pay anything towards the rental because his muffler techs could not find anything wrong with my vehicle, and that he would have his girls the front desk call about an extension. He never apologized, his main objective in our dealings is trying to say that he is not liable for the costs because nothing was wrong with the vehicle. I called up Enterprise a few days later and State Farm, and there was no record of anyone calling about trying to call for an extension on my rental car, since there was no extension given, State Farm will not reimburse me.

In conclusion, Joe Del Sesto is a poor manager because he stated that he would have his girls call and see what they could do about the extension, he never apologized and only was worried about being liable. I think that someone is trying to cover up something because my car sounded a lot better when I picked up my car the second time around. I think that someone did not own up to something because then the company would be liable for the rental and may have to answer to management for not living up to promise, or Joe lied because he did not want to be liable. Why would the assistant manager tell me that something is wrong and then no paperwork the next day, and my car sounds better, something does not add up here. If there was nothing wrong with my car, why did it take 6 business hours almost a whole day to call me? Also, it should not take 10 business days to fix a car with a bumper that needs to be replaced. It should have only taken 5 days at the most, but because someone missed something in the estimate, i had to pay for their mistakes twice. I recommend that you take your car elsewhere to have your car fixed in Grand Blanc, Michigan because I think that employees here are shady, and the turn around is very slow, much like a turtle walking fast.
