Disrespect and discrimination

In the later part of 2007 after filing a bankruptcy, my partner and I were looking for a reliable car. We contacted Freeway Ford and explained our situation, I also explained that we had approached several different dealerships and did not want to be "PUT in a Car" that they decided that was right for me.

The salesperson stated that they would not force us to choose a car they picked out and were able to help us get a car. We got to Freeway ford in the morning, letting the sales person we spoke to know that we were there and went outside to look at the used cars we found a couple that we liked. We asked the receptionist if we could get the sales person we had contacted to help us.

Finally we were helped about an hour and a half after getting to the dealership. He let us take the cars out that we liked and we decided to choose one that we both liked.

We all went back into the office and gave all our information to the sales rep. He told us to have a seat in the lobby and he will come get us when he is finished. We waited almost 5 hours - Yes we did contact the receptionist to contact the sales person. It seemed he had to take his lunch in the middle of doing our paperwork.

We finally got back into his office and we were given a list of cars to choose from. I stated that I did not want Freeway Ford to choose the car and I specified this when calling them.

He stated that this would be the only way to help us and that we would have to pay about $500 per month for the crappy cars. My partner did not like the way we were being told what we could buy and how much we were to pay and told the sales rep this.

The sales rep was extremely disrespectfull to my partner and my partner told him he had enough and left the office. I stated to the sales rep that this was disrespectfully and that the "Bait and switch" approach was not going to work with us. I left the office and started to leave the lot.

I forgot our paper work in his office so I went back to get it. Upon going back into the sales office I over heard the sales reps making comments about me and my partner - the comments were based on our sexual orientation.

I requested my paper work and left, upon getting home I sent the owner of Freeway Ford a letter stating what had happened. Mr. Barbee never responded to my letter nor did he attempt to apologize for the sales rep's demeanor.

I will never purchase a car from any of Mr. Barbee's dealerships and request that all alternative lifestyle people stay clear of purchasing a vehicle from his company as well.
