JD Byrider
Of Columbus, OH Sold me a van that was not ready to be sold and I started to have trouble with it within 3 days

On Feb. 4, I walked on to the Byrider lot and told salesman I wanted to buy a vehicle, looked at a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan, liked it, thought it was ready and so did the saleman, signed all the papers and went back the next day to pick up the van. Had to have them check the heat, van ran for 45 mins. And had none, service mgr and service tech tried to tell me that there was alot of vehicle to heat, told them don't even go there, they then checked it and the heater core needed cleaned. Took the van home and Sunday night on the way home from work the check engine light came on. Took it back on Monday and the tech checked it and said "You put gas in when the van was running that is the only reason this happened." Told him I was not stupid. He reset it and I went home, next day light back on. Called made an appointment and when another tech checked it said large leak in evac system, by now the front end was making a clunking sound, sat for 8 hrs at the shop, they told me it was fixed, that the clunking sound was caused by the struts not being tighten, the same tech who told me that told the girl in service that it was the stablizer bar. Talk about lies. Had it 2 more days and the check engine light came back on. And found out the passenger's window did not work. Also a cover had come off one on the storage spaces in the back and that had not been fixed. Took the car back up and sat for 5 hours that day. Told me it was all fixed. Not so 3 days later check engine light came on made an appointment to take it back. Was sick that day and couldn't take back. One week later coming home from work on the freeway powering steering went out of it. Had an appointment to take back next day also took vacation the next 2 days. Told them you have it for the next 2 days, I need it back on Sat. Went Sat. 14th to pick up van and no one knew anything about it. It took the mgr and a loan underwriter an hour to find the van and could not tell me what had been fixed. I took the van after the mgr drove it and told me it was all right. That the steering made a little noise but that was air in the lines from where they replaced the hose that had leak in it. That it would be ok. Started to go to work today and the check engine light came on and the power steering sounded like a rocket. I had spoke with corp. On Monday and told them I wanted the van fixed and fixed right. The service mgr wouldn't even call me until corp called him and told him to. The wheel clinders in the rear are bad and so are the brakes, got that from the service mgr, and nothing was done with them. Then I find out that the oil is black as midnight in the van. Today I took the van back and told them I wanted my downpayment of $900 and first payment $163.91 back and I also wanted the $139 I was charged for my taxes being done, $35 for plates that are worthless to me and $30 for gas that was in the van then since I had to put gas in the van as soon as I left the lot when I bought it because it was empty. I was told downpayment and first payment was all I was getting since I had put 2000 miles on the van since I had it. There was 400 miles put on just running back and forth to the shop. Told them that and they said they didn't care. So that is my story. If any one ever ask me about the place I will tell them don't do business with them. They take the engines in these vechiles and clean them spotless, you could eat off them. And according to them the vechile only had a little over 91,000 miles on it and was a corp van owned by some company in Canada. The reason I went to them in the first place was because of something they had done for my Aunt about 7 or 8 yrs. Ago and I thought anyone who would help a little old white haired lady with her car and not charge her was alright in my books. Boy did I get burned. Thank God I was able to get my old van running today. A friend worked on it and now at least I have a vechile to drive to work tomorrow. Oh that is something else they don't do is give a loaner. You either sit there and wait or find another way around. And the topper on all this is this, not only did they not fix anything in 2 days, but there was a very bad ding put in the passengers door and the passengers door was cut not once but twice on what I would call the window ledge. And the service mgr said it was a mystery to him how it could have happened. The van was left in an outside lot with the gate unlocked and opened all night. And the van wasn't even locked, and sometime during the night a door was stolen off another car that sat in that lot. So be warned do no business with Byrider that sits at the corner of Hamilton & Refugee Rd.in Columbus, OH.
