The company told me i was cosigning for my boyfriend but the loan only has me as the buyer

I was asked to cosign for a vehicle for my boyfriend, but the dealer submitted the deal in only my name. My boyfriend is the only one that can drive the vehicle because it's a manuel transmission vehicle. I have contacted the bank and will not pay for this vehicle but they are telling me to surrender the vehicle and they will sell it at the auction and then bill me for the difference. I don't think any woman should be taken advantage of like this and I was told it's illegal to purchase a vehicle for someone other than myself. Also I was told the vehicle has a bad transmission and the waaranty they sold me does not cover the problem.
