On December 08 I went to my local MAACO, 2120 Wiley Street, Hollywood, Florida looking to have them do their Ambassador Paint Job on my 1988 Jeep Cherokee. Manager Kevin Fennessy looked over my car and said that even though MAACO advertises the Ambassador Paint Job this shop does not offer it (even though there is a display sign in the waiting area that shows the service as available). I was advised I would need a more expensive paint job (one costing almost $1,000.00) and it would have a better guarantee. It should be noted that the better paint job has a lot of orange peel', runs, and dirt under the paint.
Well I fell for it and less than 90 days after getting the better paint job' I started seeing rust bubbles on the rear driver's side of the roof the same roof and hood that they striped (an additional $300.00) and totally repainted. When I brought the car in to show the Manager Kevin Fennessy he told me rust wasn't covered even though the warrantee says it is for 90 days. He also told me to let the rust go until it gets worse and he would redo the area for another $200.00.
Feeling like I had no recourse I just drove off. Recently I met a man that use to own a MAACO Shop in the center of the state and he looked at the Jeep and told me to call the customer care number (800-523-1180) and they told me to fax them a copy of my contract I did on November 21 and after about 10 days without a response I faxed them another note asking why I was being ignored. I received a call within 24 hours from a man named Bruce who after back peddling agreed to look into it.
On December 03, I received a voicemail (from Bruce) telling me to bring the car to the shop and see the Owner/Manager Eduardo Ludo who told me that rust was only covered for 90 days when I told him that I had complained to them within the 90 day period he told me rust is never covered (catch 22).
So here I am with a bad paint job and rust coming through and nowhere to turn. All I can do is warn others that you get what you pay for or should I say that even if you pay for a better paint job you don't get much from MAACO.
