I responded to a classified ad for a 2006 Lexus RX Hybrid and was contacted by the seller, Jim Karik. He told me that he had recently sold his home and other possessions in the US and was moving to the UK to be married and needed to sell this vehicle because he could not register it in UK (as it was made to US standards). Through the course of several emails, he gave me information on how to acquire the vehicle, which was located in San Jose, CA. He said he had arranged shipping with DAS and payment via EBay VPP. I received an email from what appeared to be EBay VPP, further instructing me to make payment via MoneyGram sent to an addressee (Lona David) in the UK. When I did a search of Ebay for the vehicle, I could not find it, which caused me to become suspicious. I forwarded the email I received to EBay and talked to a rep who informed me this was not a legitimate message from them. I also contacted MoneyGram, who informed me that eBay does not use their services to buy/sell merchandise on eBay. When I responded to Mr. Karik regarding finalization of the deal and asked if it could be done via ebay paypal, his response was no deal and he ceased contact.
