July 1 I took my Toyota Camry to Dobbs on Mid Rivers Mall Drive to have an oil change and my tires rotated. I planned on driving to Indiana to visit my daughter over the holiday weekend. The Asst. Store Manager told me that that the tires were not worth rotating they were in such bad shape and should be replaced. His exact words were "one could blow at any time". These were a set of tires they had sold me and that had little more than 17,000 miles on them.
I spent some time online checking out new tires. Which ones were recommended for my car and the different specifications of each. I checked with consumer reports, tirerack.com and Toyota.com to compare the tires and then chose the ones recommended to be the best (as far as noise, wear and specific weather conditions). I called Dobbs and was told that yes they carried the tires I wanted, had them in stock and (yippee!) they were actually on sale. I VERIFIED not once but TWICE, the brand, type and size of the tire and was told yes they had them and the price. It wasn't brain surgery, I needed 215/60VR16.
When I went in that same day to have them put on... Surprise, surprise... It turns out that they misquoted me the price of the tire, they do not have them in stock and I (and apparently everyone online) had chosen a totally inappropriate tire for me car. I had my computer printout with me with all the tire info as well as the price quote they had given me, I guess I shouldn't have bothered.
I was bullied, told that I don't take care of my car (it's maintained religiously including the rotating of tires) and that I bought a bad car. Apparently everything is my fault not theirs. I have never heard so many lies and half truths tossed about in so little time.
STAY AWAY FROM DOBBS, they are totally untrustworthy, liars, love the old bait and switch and obviously have the words "must be unscrupulous" in their job description!!!
I have been told that they will find me the tires and give them to me at the price quoted, I think I will wait until they actually have them in stock to tell them what they can do with them!!
