I had a very bad experience with uhaul. First they sent me to two seperate locations to pick-up the items that I was to rent (a truck, and a car transport)
The dealer at the second location attached the transport onto the truck. It was fine at first.
When I tried to put my car onto the auto transport, the trailer came unhitched, and nearly sent my car off the transport. I called to have Uhaul send out a mechanic to fix the problem. I called four times. It took six hours for them to send one out.
With the issue fixed, and having lost an entire day, I figured that Uhaul would take this episode into consideration for the time it took for the move.
They did not. I was charged $275 more for the move than quoted. I called immediately when I saw the charges.
For a month I tried to get an answer as to what had happened. Finally, I find out that they charged me, with no consideration of their ineptness contributing to the delay. They also charged me for a utility dolly that I had never received. And to top it off, they charged me for gas, having said that the truck was returned with less than it had initially. This again is a false statement. As I had made it a point to show the drop off location that there was more gas than when I received the truck.
So, I am getting charged $50 for gas, though I brought the truck back with more than in the start. I was charged for a dolly which I never received. And I was charged for time that was spent waiting for uhaul to fix a problem created by their own inability to do a proper job.
In the end, I paid, they took what they wanted. They would not respond to my calls, or emails. I am never using uhaul again, and hope that no one else will. It is a nightmare, and since you give them your account information, they can charge you as they want, not as they quote.
