Mr. Transmission
They had my car for several months, never would return my calls, charged me 1800, didnt fix the transmission

The people at Mr. Transmission in Athens, Ga are thieves. They are crooks. Last year my car's transmission went out when i was visiting Athens. I saw the Mr. Transmission shop and told myself "hey well how bad can they be, look at their name". Boy was I wrong! I permitted them to check out my transmission, which is a charge in itself. Here's the catch, im a college student, that goes to school in Statesboro, Ga. I alerted the owner of this and he said that he understood and he would try to check it out as soon as possible.By the time they "checked it out", i had missed a week of classes, and had found a way back to Statesboro.
I finally got a call telling me that the entire transmission would have to be rebuilt. I told the owner to give me a estimate of what it would cost, he told me 1400 to 1500. I told him that I would call back the next day to give him my decision. The next day i called back, they were all busy. It turned out they were all busy for about a week and a half. I finally got in contact with them and got to speak to the owner, I told him that I had decided that i would have them work done by a friend of mine. Mr. Transmission policy says that if after they check out your transmission you have the option of letting the shop rebuild the transmission or having the original transmission put back together and paying a fee for checking it out. I told the owner to put my transmission back together and i would have it picked up. He then told me that he couldnt do that because he had thrown my old parts out and fixed the transmission. I was baffled. I couldnt tell if he was just lying to keep my business or if he had genuinely worked on it. I was really just angry because i did not commission the work to be done. I told him to email me an invoice and an estimate of the cost.
It took about a week of constant pestering for this to happen. When i finally got it, the total was 1717, a far cry from 1400 to 1500. They asked me to mail them 900 dollars so they could complete the work. I found this to be funny, seeing as how the guy had just told me that he was already finished. I called back and he told me that he would be done in a few days. What a liar!!! And thief!!! For a while after that i could not get them to return my calls. No e-mails, no calls, no news of my car.
I finally got the funds to get my car back. I went up there and was told that i would be required to pay in cash because if I didnt they would charge me 7,000 dollars for the transmission and sitting fees. The banks were already closed for the day and so I would have to wait until Monday to get my car. I went to the bank and withdrew 1720. When i got back to the shop they told me that the price had gone up and it was now 1800. I complained and asked what the extra charge was for, they said it was a fee from them to get my car back. What!!??? They said that I had to pay or pretty much not get my car.
After I handed them the money they the decided to tell me that i would have no warranty on the transmission. They said since the car was there for a while, they decided to only give it a 6 month warranty which had just run out. They decision of which warranty to put on the car is reserved for the owner at the time of pick up. I protested but they would not budge. They brought my car around i sat in it. There was something different, I knew I had locked my glove compartment, but somehow it was pried open. It wouldnt close because it was on the locked position. I had to use my key to unlock it and the close it. Absolute crooks!!! I drove my car to friend's apartment and stayed the night.
That morning at 6, I headed back to Statesboro, 30 miles or so into my trip, the exact same problems that had urged me to take the car to Mr. Transmission had started to occur again. I somehow made it to Macon. I had to wait to call the shop because they werent open yet. I finally got into contact with one of the guys that worked there and asked him for the corporate number. He said he didnt know it and he would have the owner call me when he got in. Two hours later i got a call from the owner, he said "we could have charged you 7,000 dollars and we didnt". He then said im not fussing at you but i'll give you the corporate number. I then told him, you know even if i had paid seven thousand the car would not have been fixed. He then said to bring the car back to Athens so he could check it out to see if it was the engine or transmission. He then told me that they had started to have problems with the engine when they were "fixing" the transmission. They were absolutely no problems with my engine when i went there, how would there be now? I am looking for any legal advice, I want to take any and all action against this company. They absolutely take advantage of people's situation and especially college students and most likely women. They need to be punished for their crimes.
