My experience: I used to own a '96 Blazer. I noticed that my radiator fluid started gunking up (It was Dexcool) on the vehicle. It was right before Christmas, and I wanted the problem corrected. I took it there because they were still open, and it was not far from where I lived.
Like others experienced, there was a charge for it to be looked at, and I trusted them. Well, after taking some things apart, they told me I needed a new radiator! Not only that, but that I had a leak in a transmission line.
I know that the transmission was not acting up at all, and I doubt there was really a leak, unless they damaged it. Right then and there, I felt I've been had. My car was suddenly not driveable, I couldn't take it anywhere else, being shops were closed for the holidays, and I needed the vehicle working.
I tried to complain, but it fell on deaf ears. The charge for the repairs -close to $1,000. Did they really replace the radiator and transmission line - I can't be sure, but the dexcool was changed. I feel ripped off by them.
The blazer is long gone, but I will never go back there. Unlike normal car repair shops, they probably realize that they would infrequently see the same people with tranny needs, so they price gouge and don't care about their customers.
