September 13 our 04 Durango was stolen from my work. I came out to smoke to see that it was no longer where i left it. I called the police and filed a report. As soon as the claims office opened, I called to inform them that the vehical had been stolen and as soon as the police find it i will call back and let them know. I did the same to the bank as well.
About 12 hours later the police had called to inform us that our vehical had been found 2 cities away and that it was "Torched". It was found in a factory area in the woods and had burned until there was nothing left to burn. State Farm had us jump through so many hoops during their investigation, yet we did what they asked since we had nothing to hide.
They ended up denying our claim because they said we were so far in debt that we needed to do this to help get back on track with bills. They also came to this conclusion because 2 months before this happened we sold our house. What they dd not take into consideration was that My husband is active duty Navy and we had recieved orders to transfer to Michigan. The Navy then changed our orders and kept us in Virginia. We even had proof of this.
We still owed a little more then $28,000 on the durango so we found an attorney who was willing to take them on in court. It took 2 years to go through the process and we finally reached our trial date. The Jury found in favor of us which got us around $17,000. So this left us owing a little more then $11,000 left on the vehical.
In the end we still got screwed. Some immature moron steals our truck, burns it, and we still have to pay on that. So tell me State Farm what is the point of havig full coverage on a vehical when we have to pay outrageous attorney fees only to win about half of what is still owed?
Stay away from State Farm, and if you do decide to do business with them, I hope this never happens to you.
