I took my truck to this shop to have the tires replaced. I was told that my brakes were in bad shape and needed to be replaced (note that I wasn't having any brake problems at this point). I trusted this shop based on work they had done for me previously but this time was a different story.
I decided to have them do the brake repair.
As I drove away from the shop, I heard a scratching noise coming from the front brakes. I immediately called Wayne (the shop manager) and reported this to him. He told me to bring it back and he would take care of it. I brought the truck back and they told me they forgot to turn the rotors (which I thought were only in the rear of the truck). They turned the rotors and said everything was OK.
As I drove away the second time, I heard scratching coming from the front brakes. Again, I called Wayne and reported this to him. Again, he said to bring it back and he would take care of it. I did so (third trip) and they told me they couldn't find any problem and couldn't hear anything as I described. I waited for the noise to get louder and brought the truck back a fourth time. Again, they said they couldn't hear anything and that everything looked OK.
This went on for almost 8 months. Finally it got to the point that when I hit the brakes, the entire truck would shake. I no longer felt safe driving my kids in this vehicle. Again, I called Wayne and he said to bring the truck in and he'd look at it.
Instead of going back to Del Richards Automotive, I tried another shop closer to where I work. They looked at the brakes and said it appeared that I had been towing very heavy trailers with the truck and that the repairs would be $880 for a complete brake overhaul. I was very frustrated, paid this shop $40 for their time and told them I would be bringing it back to the company that did the brake work less than a year ago.
So I drove back to Del Richards for the FIFTH time and told them something had to be done. Wayne looked at the situation and told me that I needed new brakes. I wasn't about to pay them anymore for work they should have done the first time.
I found another shop, closer to home, that said the same thing the other mechanic said... I needed a complete brake overhaul. This ended up costing me $840 for new brakes. Del Richards ripped me off and refused to fix the problem. The blew me off for almost a year saying nothing was wrong when all along... The brakes were getting worse and worse.
I did find the owner of Del Richards online and wrote a letter explaining this situation. He did contact me and told me he wanted to make the situation right but that he couldn't talk then and asked me to call him back. I was not able to make the call when he asked me to but I did try him back several times, left 3 messages and have not heard from him since (over a month ago).
I have two young children and had no choice but to get the work done elsewhere and pay the price for all of our safety.
I would not recommend using Del Richards Automotive to anyone. They act like they care, but when it comes right down to it... They will blow you off until the problem goes from small to outrageous and you end up paying 3 times the original cost.
