Pep Boys Store
0960 non existing problems

We brought our 1987 oldsmobile Calasis in for a starting problem. A man named Roman told us that we would have ti have an electrical test done to find the cause and that it would cost us around $75,00. We agreed and left the vehicle in their hands.

A few hours later I was contacted by Roman stating that all the electrical systems checked out ok and they recommended a cleaning of the throttle body and a gas treatment to cure the problem. We agreed and pick the car up after a few more hours and a total cost of 180.00.
We drove the car for about 3 to 4 days and then ended up stranded in a Walmart parking lot with a no starting problem again.

We called the 1 800 pep boys number to arrange for a tow to store # 0960. This required me to lose a few hours of work waiting for a tow truck to pick up the car and deliver it to the store for an evaluation. We find out later from Roman that we have a bad crank sensor that needs to be replaced for 94.00. We agree to this repair and hope this will solve our problems only to receive a phone call a few hours later from Cesar the service manager stating that when they installed the new sensor that it broke and it was caused by a bent pulley that needed to be replaced for 160.00.

I asked if this bent pulley was caused when removing it to replace the defective part and was told by Cesar that no they did not damage it. I told Cesar to go ahead and replace the pully and let me know when the job was complete.

Later that evening no phone call was received and so another day passed before we received a phone call to come pick the car up. We arrived to find out that instead of the pulley being replaced we had an ignition coil and ignition module replaced and the cost ended up to be the same as the so called bad pulley. Total cost $335.00. We thought after all of this headache just before the Christmas holiday that our problems would be over.

We drove the car for a few days to find out the car performed worst than when we brought it into the shop the first time. This would be the 3rd trip back for the starting problem that now is a performance problem. I left the car with Cesar who said they would get right on this and find out what was the problem.

A few days passed and then I received A phone call from Roman stating that the performance problem was caused by a bad timeing belt that would need to be replaced and we stated that this problem did no exist before they started working on it. Roman abrubtly stated that it was a old car ha ha. I was at my wits end at this point after investing over 600.00 for a starting problem we were now facing even more expense.

I stated to Roman that we would not spend anymore money on this repair and that I wanted the car to operate a road worthy condition. Roman said they would do what they could. A few hours passed and i was once again contacted by Roman stating that a spark plug wire was arcing out and that the wires should be replaced for around 35.00.

At this point I was fumeing and I told Roman to just stop and return the car to me. Another day passed and my wife was called to pickup the car. She drove the car home to find coolant leaking out in a small stream and the car appered to be thrown back togather with a total disregard to the leaks and performace of the car.

We waited a day and I contacted Cesar the service manager to express how dissappointed I was with the repair job and that the car performed even worse than when we brought the car in the first time. Cesar stated that he would personally check out the car and get it fixed. Three days passed and then we were contacted by Roman once again stating that the engine compression was bad and that the engine was blown and that we would need an engine replacment.

At this point I had enough as still no one was admitting to us that they had made a mistake with any of the repair work performed. I asked Cesar what he could do about this Situation and he stated that he would put his best mechanic on this job. A full week passed and I called Ceasar about the car and once again a new problem exsisted. A bad relay and a non working fan was the cause of the engine misfiring and the low compression. Cesar stated that they were not good at diagnosing this type of electrical problem and that was as far as they could go with the repair.

It is now 3 weeks later from the 1st time we brought the car in and we still do not have this problem resolved. A new radiator was installed for the so called leak that existed after the 3rd trip to this shop. I am planning on taking this car to another shop and sending the bill to PEP BOYS.
