The Ford F-150 Supercrew has a severe weakness in the rear body panels. I backed into a pole (I know, a very bonehead move) at the dog park trying to negotiate a tight parking lot. The pole was hit at approximately 2-4 m.P.H., but the damage totalled $2500.00. That damage only included the truck. The only mark on the pole was from a flower that was crushed by the bumper.
I discussed the problem with Ford via customer service telephone operators, and via the internet at Ford connection. Other than a sympathetic ear, they offered nothing supportive. Since the car had under 5000 miles and was still under warranty, I expected Ford to take some of the financial burden, but they happily let my insurance company take care of it (God bless insurance).
For a vehicle that is advertised as "Ford Tough", I felt like a sucker. The back panels folded like a house of cards leaving the tailgate hanging helplessly. Not exactly what I expected when spending so much money on a new truck. Also, what if it had been a real collision, and I had my dogs in the back. Not a pleasant thought.
