Pikes Peak Acura
Still a Ripoff Company

I also purchased a used car from Pikes Peak Acura. I went to the Big Car Sale Extravaganza at the World Arena in August found a cute little red 2001 Ford Focus and sat with the salesman for about a half hour talking to him about it. He asked me what payments I wanted to make, I gave him my highest amount, he said they can't do anything lower than what they wanted me to pay. I got up and started to walk away. He stopped me and said he would talk to the 'money guy' again to see what they could do to put me in the car. They came within $20 of my highest amount so I signed the papers and got the car.

While I was finishing the deal, the 'money guy' offered me a 3 year warranty for an additional $30.00 a month. I told him I didn't need it because I have 3 mechanics in our family and I could get a better deal through them if anything went wrong. He made a good argument about if I wasn't in reach of the family mechanics, I may need it if I'm in another state and the car breaks down. He wouldn't let me think about it, just said I had to have it.

I gave in with one condition - would I be able to get a refund of the $30 a month I paid for the duration of the warranty if I don't use the warranty or the services? He said "Yes, Sure, there's no problem with that, this is just as a precaution-type warranty". I asked again if I would get a refund if I don't ever utilize the warranty and services, he said "yes, just contact us". So, I got the warranty for an additional $30 a month for 3 years. My 'warranty' went into effect for August - August.

Here it is, July. I haven't ever used the warranty because I didn't have any problems so I've contacted both the First Extended Service Corporation (the company with the warranty) and Pikes Peak Acura. I sent them both a letter of information and request for a possible refund a MONTH ago and never heard back.

Finally yesterday, I received a letter from First Extended Services who said to contact the dealer. I faxed the information to the dealer and he said I would have to contact the Warranty Company. When I told him that they said to contact the dealer because "the dealership has full liability for the contract and they would have to issue a refund", he said to resend it to him at a different number and he would pass it along to the correct person.

He called not 5 minutes later - they suddenly work very fast in that office. He said it was explained as when we purchase insurance for our car or house and if we don't use the insurance then we've just eaten the cost. I asked why the other guy said I would be able to get a refund if I wasn't. He said he didn't know but he was wrong - no one ever gives a refund on warranties that don't get used.

Well, that's not true. I've checked with people I know who have purchased a new/used vehicle and get a warranty. Most of them have gotten complete, total refunds for the amounts they've paid into a Warranty if the warranty was not used. It depends on the company and the dealer. They said my deal sounds like a ripoff and I should report them to someone. So, here I am.

I've seen a couple of items here about Pikes Peak Acura and I'm going to add my two cents and try to steer people away from Pikes Peak Acura in Colorado Springs and anyone they work with.
