Auto Check
Ripoff Lied and Endangered My Entire Family

We took my fiance's car, a Ford Contour, to Auto Check about 2 months ago to find out why we kept having to refill the brake fluid and why there was a strange squeaking/grinding sound coming from under the car.

We were told that there was a joint that was bad and had to be replaced, complete with bearings. We were also told that there was nothing wrong with the brakes or the shocks (my suspected source of the squeak as the squeak is heard when someone gets out of the car on the driver's side). The car was kept overnight and we were told it would be repaired by about 2 P.M. The next day.

At 5 P.M. The next day we called the store and were told the car would be ready in about 15 minutes. We waited for a full hour, outside the store. When we asked we were consistently told, "Five more minutes."

We finally had our car returned to us along with a "free oil change" coupon. We left. We smelled something that smelled strongly of burning rubber or sealant for several days. As the smell decreased, we began to notice something far worse... The smell of exhaust. Every time we turn on the fan or the A/C in the car, the exhaust floods into the car making everyone ill. This was never a problem in this car before this visit to Auto Check.

The squeaking persists, and has gotten so much worse that we now hear it no matter what kind of road we drive over and now hear a grinding sound when the car is in reverse and the wheel is turned either direction. The grinding was not present before our visit to Auto Check.

The brakes are a matter I intend to take up personally with the store. My fiance took the car to a different shop today when the brake light came on again.in his car, if the brake light comes on or flickers, it means that the brake fluid is low. If the fluid is not leaking, why is the light on... *again!? *

This new shop showed where there was indeed a leak. There were, in fact, two leaks, one on each of the rear brakes. A "no leak" problem that could have killed myself, my children and my fiance, a leak we knew existed but could not locate in the driveway of our home, a leak that Auto Check told us did not exist.

I will be visiting the store tomorrow. I already attempted to call them several times but the standard response has been that the manager will be back in about 45 minutes. Perhaps he'll appear more quickly when I am there in person.

Even if I get a refund, finding this site and posting this report will have been well worth my time. Perhaps I'll spare someone else from having their children placed in danger by the lazy and haphazard "work" of this site.
