J.D. Byrider aka The Recon Store
Ripoff abused & mistreated

All My problems began on Nov. 11 when I bought a 1990 Nissan Stanza from J.D. Byrider. My Nissan Stanza had 106,030 miles on it when I purchased it for a whopping 8,046.20 plus 21% intrest which brought the total price of the car to 12,098.84. And did I mention the 1,800 warranty. I knew my credit wasn't good so I "bit the bullet" so to speak and accepted the car. All during the closing I was trying to figure out how they were legally tripling the price of the vehicle. The oddest thing was during the closing the Cnac (the bank that finace company) manager never looked up once while explaining the legal ins and outs of the contract. I don't know but it always tends to bother me when one can't look you in the eye, especially when discussing business.

After havign the car only three weeks I noticed a very loud noise coming from the brakes. I took the car to Byrider several times and each time I was told there was nothing wrong with the brakes. They treated me as if I was crazy, imagining things I suppose.

After weeks and weeks of driving around with this annoying brake noise I finally took it to a local mechanic (Teaxco) only to be told I have no brakes. I took the car back to Byrider again and low and behold now the brakes are bad as well as the rotaters.

Of course Byrider took no responsibility for the brake repairs at all, even though they assurred me when I purchased the vehicle it had just had new brakes put on. Well I "BIT THE BULLET" again and accepted the $150.00 service bill. I actually thought after the brakes i'd have little minor problems here and there and that would be it. I have a 12,00 car and I expected to run like a 12,00 car it didn't.

Shortly after the brake problems I noticed the transmission seemed to be slipping, I knew my extened warranty covered the transmisson so I took it back to Byrider once again. The service manager who I add wasn't much of a service to me, says "My guys can't seem to find anything wrong;but if you'd like I can send it out to be checked but if their dianogis is the same you'll be charged $48.00/hr plus the transpotation charge.

He "strongly suggested I didn't send the car away so I didn't. I trusted this guy (the service manager) I actually thought he was on my side. After being told over and over by the service manager" Trust me, i've enver lied to and never will" Man these guys are good, I was actually feeding into this bs. About three months passed and the transmission was still slipping. Finally I did the same thing I had done months earlier with the brakes. I took the car to a replica transmission shop (Cottman Transmissions) and was told my transmission was going.

I took the car back to Byrider, by this time my patience was wearing very thin with Byrider. I refused to foot the whole for the transmission. Byrider agreed to pay the labor well so I thought. They claimed to have found a used transmission for $900.00, I thought it sounded alittle steep considering they were paying for the labor. I didn't stress it since they claimed they were sending it to a transmission shop, I was told by the service manager"The job was alittle too big for them and they wanted someone to do it who had more experience then what they had".

So I dropped my car off to Byrider the following day because the outside mechanic was due to pick up my car that day. Something kept nagging at me to drive pass J.D. Byrider and low and behold what do I see? My car in their garage with their pretend mechanics working on it. When I questioned the service manager he tells me they now can do it and it'll save them a few dollars. Now isn't this the same man who only days before said they weren't capable of doind the job? Now all of a sudden they've attained all the knowledge they need to do the job in a matter of days?

By now i'm beyond angry and on top of it I get the car back and two days later this transmission goes! After doing alittle research I find out they own the warranty company and the bank. This explains why the service manager was so reluctant to send my car away for a second opinion. Why would he? It would cost the warranty company aka J.D. Byrider a couple thousand dollars. So not only did they push the transmission work off until the warranty ran they didn't even fix it right.

After another week without my car the put another transmission in, it's too early to tell yet about this one. The icing on the cake is through alittle research I found out they had doubled the price on the transmission. I phoned CNAC/J.D. Byriders manager and was told" That you're paying for the transmission and the labor and there's nothing you can do", "You already signed the contract. Although he's mistaken there's alot I can do. I've contacted the State Attorney Genreal's Office as well as and attorney. This is far from over.

Had I known what I know now about J.D. Byrider I would have kept walking until i found a used car from a personal dealer.
