So my horrible experience with Hanson's started when I called around to get my front end alignment fixed on my car. I have recently moved and not knowing anyone in the area, I relied on the Yellow Pages. Hanson's was listed as a family owned business with reasonable rates, so I called to get an estimate for the work. I spoke with a gentleman (did not get his name) and was quoted $60. Since I've never had work like this done before and being told that this was a good rate, I took my car in to be fixed.
I was leaving the following day for a vacation and had to drive quite a distance, so I asked the gentleman who was working if it would be possible to have an oil change done as well. I did not ask at this point what the charge would be, since I've never been charged more than $30 for an oil change (and that was done at a major chain-something I will never do again).
I showed up later in the day to pick up my car and was presented with a bill for $112.38. Um, excuse me? How did a $60 alignment and an oil change get to be that high? The man working told me that the alignment was $70. After arguing with him, he finally dropped the price back down to $60. As I was reading the bill, one of the items said "oil change...$21". Then there was a parts fee of $15.95 and an environmental fee of $3.22. When I inquired about those charges, I was informed that they were for the oil and filter. At this point I was so angry and late for work, that I paid the bill and left.
After reviewing the bill in detail later, I discovered that the $21 was LABOR charges ONLY. Adding it up (labor, parts, and environmental fee), I found out that I was charged $40 for a REGULAR oil change. Not synthetic. What a ripoff. I called the local Saturn dealership and was told that they only charge $29.99 total. This place is a ripoff-stay away!
