I purchased a 1999 Ranger XLT on or about March 2 from Chris Looper at Heritage Ford. He told me one VIN code over the phone, and sold me a truck with a different VIN code. The truck Chris Looper sold me has a possible odometer rollback on its Carfax report, rendering it virtually unresellable.
I have a time and date stamped log from Carfax showing my VIN code searches leading up to this purchase. The other VIN code, the incorrect one, belongs to a Ranger XLT on the Heritage Ford lot at the time of my purchase. The truck I purchased had been in a wreck in 1999, unlike the truck that the wrong VIN code belongs to.
When I called USAA for insurance the next day I discovered the mismatch in VIN codes. I left a message for the manager, who called back to say that I should "do what I have to do" since they could do nothing from their end. That is unless I wanted to come back and trade in the truck on a more expensive vehicle.
