On Tuesday March 13th I took my van to Tires Plus on Baymeadows Road in Jacksonville, FL. I dropped the van off between 7:30 am and 8:00 am. To remove a screw from a rear tire, to get an oil change and to get a lug not re-attached that another Tires Plus Store had accidently removed during prior service.
I was aware that I may need two new tires and was advised of such along with over $1,400 dollars in other suggested repairs. (Brake Flush, Hose replacement, Struts, 4 shocks, anti-freeze flush) I advised them to replace the two tires, perform the oil change and replace the lug nut only.
My wife went to pick our van up at around 3:00 pm and she found that the back driver side quarter panel had been severely crushed. The van was not damaged in this way when we dropped it off in the morning. My wife immediately went in and asked what had happened to the back of our van. After several employees scurried about one of the guys behind the desk said the van was not finished with all the repairs and that it would take another 30 minutes. They still acted as though nothing happened to the back of the van.
My wife called and I met her at the store. The person behind the counter went outside with us and said that he was told it was only a small dent. My bumper was pushed in about 8 inches and the rear tail light was broken. He said the technician that moved the van noted the damage on his walk around inspection that took place at 10:00 am.
I called on Wednesday and talked to the Store Manager, Ken Bates, who was very defensive and stated that I should file with my own auto insurance just as I should if my vehicle were damaged in a Wal-Mart parking lot. I then asked to speak to his boss.
When I first contacted Harry Farincamp (?) he seemed very concerned and promised he would look into it. He called me back and maintained the party line that the technician noted the damage at 10:00 am. I am now awaiting a call back from their Risk Management Department but I have a feeling that I know the response I'm going to get.
