Dennis Autopoint
Ripoff, repair fraud

Dennis Autopoint is not an honest place to bring your vehicle for repair service.in 2005 I brought my 98 Isuzu Rodeo for service citing poor gas milage, a hard start problem, and strong gas fumes on startup. The diagnosis came back being the ERT valve is stuck and needs to be replace, fuel injector replacement, spark plug replacement the fuel line needs to be cleaned of carbon build-up. The bill came to be around $800.

The problems I cited seemed to have resolved following the repairs except for the gas fumes. Gas milage did improve and I didn't think much of it after.

Fast forward to late summer 2006. I noticed that again my vehicle had a tough time starting, and gas milage was again decreasing. I am living in Florida now and brought it in to a dealer for diagnosis today (9/11/06). The diagnosis was ERT valve stuck open, a leak in the fuel pipe (as I suspected for the fumes long ago), and excessive carbon build-up due to the stuck valve. Needless to say I was shocked as I thought these issues were resolved as they are not yearly maintenance repairs.

The techs here in Florida says the ERT valve looks original was not replaced leading them to conclude Dennis merely "cleaned" it and did not perform a replacement as they should. Again, the full bill time time is around $800 for labor and repairs. Had to swallow a bitter pill.

Just before I moved to Florida I had Dennis do a recall work on my ABS system (early August) which includes replacing the ABS computer. Noticed some problems with the ABS warning light coming on and off right after the work was done, but could not consistantly reproduce the effect. Discovered after moving to Florida that the ABS warning light comes on when the vehicle reaches 55mph, but otherwise stays off.

I called Dennis about this problem and they denied the recall included replacing the computer but was only a dust cover replacement, and the erratic ABS is not related to their workmanship. This was a straight up lie as I called Isuzu HQ to determine the exact nature of that recall and was certainly a computer replacement. The dealership here in FL took a look at the problem. After some hours of inspection, they suspected the computer might have programmed with error codes and may only need to be programmatically cleared. The issue is not completely clear yet as they need more time with it.

Dennis obviously had the intention of charging for "ABS repairs" had I brought it in to their shop. All this leads to the conclusion is that Dennis Autopoint does not an honest business and I recommend not doing business with them.
