Ripoff stole my $2000 on so called repairs but car broke down same day

On Feb 07 I brought my 1993 Chevrolet Cavalier into the auto service shop of John Logan Chevrolet, Inc., The vehicle had starting and stalling problems, identified but not resolved previously by two other mechanics, Quality Cars and Chan's Auto Centre. The car would occasionally start and then idle for several seconds before the engine died. On some other occasions, the engine would crank but not start at all.

The service technician, Julie Mendonca, acknowledged my problems and agreed on having the car looked at, in order to fix it. Several days later, she contacted me to let me know that the technicians had found out what the problem was and she needed my permission to open up the engine, as coolant fluid had apparently seeped thru the engine, ruined some gaskets and had ended in the exhaust system. She made it clear that fixing this set of problems would keep the vehicle running. The initial estimate was about 1200 CAD, including taxes. After several days, she contacted me again to announce that they had found a cracked cylinder head that was also causing stalling problems. That added another 600 CAD to the initial estimate, bringing the total to approx 1950 CAD.

I reluctantly agreed to the charges after she guaranteed that the above repairs would keep the vehicle running and would prevent any further stalling or starting problems. On March 1, I arrived to pick up my repaired vehicle, paid a total of 1927.57 CAD and got the keys, ready to drive off to my delivery driver job. I was soon shocked to find out I could not drive off to work as the just repaired car would simply not start. They brought it back to the shop and had me wait for an extra 45 minutes after I had just paid them 2000 dollars!

Eventually the vehicle started up and I drove it to my job as a delivery driver in Etobicoke. I then used the car for about 5 deliveries in a time frame of about 2 hours. Shockingly, as I was ready to make another delivery, my car would not start again, although the engine would crank. After a couple of minutes, the car started for a few seconds and thenthe engine died! Those symptoms were EXACTLY the ones I had when I brought the car into service, and EXACTLY the ones I had paid 2000 dollars to fix just several hours before!!! I found the situation to be outrageous and I was deeply disturbed by it. My job was all of a sudden in jeopardy, as I was not able to drive and fulfill my duties. After calling John Logan Chevrolet, and speaking to Julie and her assistant manager, the latter reluctantly agreed to have my car towed back to their garage in Brampton. He was rude and made it sound like he was DOING ME A HUGE FAVOR, when they had obviously not done their job of fixing my car at all but were bold enough to charge me $2000 that very same morning! The vehicle was eventually towed back to their facility. The following day I went back to their garage to complain, show them my discontent and ask for my money back. I planned on being civilized and ask for my money back because they had not repaired my car. I didn't see a reason for them to keep my money as they have not done their job or fixed my car. The break down was EXACTLY as the ones I had before bringing in my car, and was not at all another set of problems, as they tried to put it. I think that by not fixing the problem they have not done their job, therefore they don't deserve to get paid. As a delivery driver, I don't get paid if I deliver the wrong package, do I? Their technicians are unqualified and paid outrageous amounts of money to perform needless repairs. If they can't fix the problem, am I just going to put up with their incompetence and pay them for it? I thinks that is absurd! Needless to say, I am very upset about how I have been treated so far. The assistant service manager was condescending and told me flat out that there is no chance to get my money back. That is because I agreed to the repairsFirst off, they were NOT repairs, as my car is not YET repaired. Second, the work done was supposed to FIX my car, not to patch up the engine here & there just for the sake of it and for the sake of their bank accounts. They have the impression that they can take advantage of consumers and make unnecessary repairs and replace various parts, without actually fixing the problems. And this will probably go on forever, until the whole car is replaced and my bank account is empty!

I am disappointed with John Logan Chevrolet, their level of auto repair knowledge and integrity. I am not asking for compensation for the inconvenience that they have caused me they have not even offered me a rental car and I almost lost my job because of them. They should pay me for my lost wages and all the stress they have caused me but I am not asking for thatAll I am asking is to be reimbursed the money that I paid - $1927.57. I also would like to have all their unnecessary parts removed from my vehicle they did not fix any problems! I would like to have my vehicle back, so I can attempt to repair it somewhere else, maybe at a more honest and competent facility.

To add insult to injury, when I went in to drop off the above complaint letter, the president of the place, Mr. David Logan, treated me like garbage. I told him I wouldn't leave until they returned my stolen money for the job they did not do, and so the thief called the police. How I embarassed him in front of his employeees & the cops. The thief called the cops on the ripped-off consumer, now only an old white privileged white collar criminal can get away with that! That bastard tried to grin his way into convincing me to have my car fixed at his dump for an extra $700!!! Is taht outrageous or what? I called him a thief & a crook in front of everyone, what a phony felon, and he has his name on the building. His pockets are now getting fatter with my hard earned $ and when I left, he was rubbing shoulders with those miserable cops, who couldn't respect themselves enough to ignore his cheap buddy jokes. What a f*ing world we live in, when the cops and the criminals laugh it up in front of the ripped off citizen!!!
