We purchased a brand new Hyundai Sonata in October. We purchased the life time LOF because they convinced us it would be a good investment because they could diagnose and correct any problems before they occured to possibly prevent breakdowns etc. We have been having problems with our battery since June. The cables have been coroding very quickly. We brought this to the service departments attention both in June and in September when we brought it in for an oil change (the battery was under warranty until October). They said it was okay.
By the way they tried to charge us for supposedly cleaning the connectors in September. Two days later the battery went dead and guess what the connectors were completely covered with corrosion. I cleaned them myself and wrote a nast y letter to hyundai relating this experience and got no response.
My battery died again yesterday. Called roadside assisstance and had them haul down to Lithia. Called Lithia and told them it was the battery. They couldn't figure out what was wrong. Today I get a call after running diagnostics and pretty much pulling the whole car apart they say it's the battery and it will cost $850.00 to fix the car. Why? Because apparently the 3 times I tried to start the car with a dead battery caused the engine to flood, corroded the spark plugs, need to de-carbonize the engine and they need to do a complete tune-up to fix all the damage.
Have you heard of that much damage being caused by a dead battery? Do you know how simple it is to diagnose a dead battery? They are the biggest jerks with absolutely no customer service skills and they are running some sort of rip-off scam to get out money by having us buy their lifetime LOF. Every time I go in they try and tell me something is wrong with my car. Last time they said the trasmission fluid needed to be changed. I had just had it done but not through them. I had another mechanic do it who used the special hyundai fluid for less than half the price.
