Dairyland scam
I purchased a truck Dec. 17 and purchased auto insurance, through the dealership from Dairyland Insurance Co. I paid the initiation premium (on they day I purchased the truck in order to drive it off the lot) and have made a total of 3 of the 4 monthly payment installments on the policy.
I received a notice of CANCELLATION effective 03-01-02 on 03-12-02. I had been driving for eleven days without insurance and didn't even know it! I phoned Dairyland Insurance to find out why my policy had been cancelled, since there wasn't an explanation on the notice. They said that they had sent ME and my insurance agent, PEOPLES INSURANCE a letter on Jan. 3 wanting to know the "original date I was issued a drivers license " and that it also stated that if they did not receive this information from me in 15 days that my policy would be canceled. I, nor Peoples Insurance had received such letter. They said that they also had sent me a notice prior to cancel back in Feb. I received nothing from them except the monthly bills, which were paid and the notice that I had been cancelled. Dairyland Insurance said that it must be a postal issue and that I should bring it up with the U.S. Post Office. If this information is SO IMPORTANT, that I risked cancellation, why was it not sent CERTIFIED MAIL? Why do they not have to provide proof that this letter was even sent at all!
They said there was nothing they could do and that I was cancelled. I find it amazing that they were able to send me bills for the last three months and the bills made it to my home yet all of the other mail they "sent" never made it. They took my money every month yet never mention this issue. Also, why was I not canceled on January 18th, if this mysterious letter was sent to me on January 3rd and I had 15 days to comply or be cancelled? Why did they wait until March to cancel my policy?
They take all your money then cancel you for a lame excuse without any prior notice!
Does Dairyland Insurance Company do this to ALL THEIR CUSTOMERS?
This has to be illegal!
