The gas also comes from California, not the East. The gas retailers are taking advantage of people passing through on the interstates who decide to stop because of the pine trees, and mountains. So if you are driving through Arizona on Interstate 40, or 17, do not get gas in Flagstaff, you will be ripped off. Get gas anywhere else in a variety of places.
Flagstaff business and land owners have always ripped people off, that's why Flagstaff has the highest cost of living in the state, and the lowest wages. The locals have no choice, but travelers have a choice, don't pick Flagstaff.
