Gwinnett Place Honda
Lied, invalidated sale already made, tried for rip-off, rude and arrogant

To all concerned individuals considering purchasing a Honda from Gwinnett Place Honda - beware! These people are unethical, untruthful, arrogant, and unprofessional!

In early Dec, I went to GPH to look at buying a used CRV. I knew what I was willing to spend and I also knew my trade-in was worth approx what I owed on it (according to Edmunds.com)

I went to GHP and test-drove a couple of vehicles near my price range. I really liked one of them so my husband and I went into the showroom to try to negotiate a deal. The negotiations did not go well (my husband was handling the situation and he can be rather abrasive at times.) At one point GPH suggested a deal and my husband countered with a lower offer. GHP then came back with a HIGHER deal than the first one they had offered and tried to justify it by showing us a bunch of fuzzy-figures. This should have been a sign to me about their business practices, but I couldn't believe this was their preferred modus-operandi. Anyway, we left laughing.

I really wanted a CRV though, so when the salesman called me at work the next day, I agreed to come in and take a look at some other CRV's they had on the front of their sales lot for a slightly lower price range. I test-drove the vehicles and settled on one to buy in my range. (I had done extensive research and felt very well informed.) This time, I want in to negotiate myself. I apologized for my husband's behavior the day before, which I thought might have been considered as rude. My salesman, who was wonderful, told me that they dealt with people like that a lot, since so many people have had bad car buying experiences.

The negotiations went very well this time. We agreed upon a price for the CRV, the trade in worth, and the financing (I had a blank check if I wanted to use my own financing, but they were able to get me a lower interest rate) The CRV was Honda Certified, but had two worn tires. As part of the deal, GPH was to replace the tires the next morning. We signed everything and I gave the down payment and took the vehicle home.

The next morning I brought the vehicle to GPH to get the new tires. They called me about an hour later and told me that I wouldn't get the vehicle back because it had sludge in the engine. What?!? The vehicle had been sold as Honda Certified I wanted to take the vehicle and have it examined by a repair shop, but I was told I couldn't take the vehicle.

While I was made to wait, my salesperson's manager came to me and tried to sell me a lesser vehicle AT THE SAME PRICE as the vehicle I had already purchased!!! Leading me to believe that Mr. Tom Ford, the GM had nixed the deal that his salespeople, manager, and finance dept had made. Was their judgment not to be trusted???

I went in to see the Mr. Ford, and I was given the run around by the staff and received NO customer service. Finally I got into the GM's office and tried to talk to him. He was rude and belligerent. I asked if he would sign/void my contract for my record keeping purposes. He told me, We don't need to sign anything. You have your down payment back. You are dismissed.

WHAT?!? Dismissed I was livid! I had been nothing but polite and respectful to him; and I received nothing but rude, arrogant, unprofessional, crass treatment in return! This man has no business being in a position of managing an establishment that theoretically caters to customers!

I have been telling everyone I know about this experience and I know that I have already dissuaded at least three people from considering Gwinnett Place Honda as a place to purchase a vehicle from. I see the ads about 50,000 Happy Honda Owners at Gwinnett Place Honda and I wonder why they don't mention the number of Unhappy Almost-Honda Owners But I guess the number would be too big to count.

My purpose in filing a consumer complaints is to increase awareness of others so that no one else is duped into thinking these people are honest business owners. I will NEVER purchase anything from them! And by the way, I ended up buying a Ford, from a Toyota dealership, of a higher value than the Honda I had THOUGHT I had purchased!
