On Saturday, October 16 (I just found out about this website), around 1 PM, my husband and I heard an ad on the radio (KJ97) that if Red McCombs Superior Pontain GMC Hyundai could not get you financed for a car, they will give you $100.
We decided it wouldn't hurt to make the 30 min drive across town to give it a try. We need a second car, but haven't found anyone to finance us, so if they didn't either, we'll get $100.
So about 3 PM we arrive there and was immediately approached by a salesperson, Craig. My husband asked him about the $100 and Craig said it wasn't a gimmick and there were no strings attached.
Craig asked us what car we were interested in, and we told him we couldn't afford much, so he suggested a Hyundai.
He then suggested we go inside and speak to someone in the finance dept. About our credit and to see what we'd be able to get.
The finance man (don't recall his name) told my husband and I that he could get us in a car for $500 down and $300 or less a month. My husband told the man what his credit score was and the man said that was no problem, he gets people with that score or lower all the time, that if they didn't finance people with lower scores, they wouldn't have any business at all.
My husband told the man he didn't want to waste our time and theirs if they couldn't finance us. The man took my husband's SSN and copied his driver's license. My husband asked for a confidential release statement and the man said they didn't have those in Texas, but if he couldn't finance us, he'd shred our info in front of us.
The man told Craig to show us the Chevy Cavaliers with plates on them in the used lot while he ran our info. My husband test drove the Cavalier, a Sunfire, then 2 other Sunfires while my 2 yr old daughter and I told outside in the hot sun (didn't get her carseat out of our car, so I didn't want her to be riding int he test car without her carseat).
Finally I started feeling sick from standing out in the sun for hours, so we explained we needed to go ahead and find out what they can finance us for before we test drive any other cars.
We went inside to speak with the finance man again and he now says it will be Monday before he knows anything. We told him we were really interested in the used Corolla, or maybe the Sunfire, but not the Cavalier. He said no problem, we'd be able to get the Corolla. He got some more info from my husband and we left.
Monday my husband didn't get home till after 5 PM, so after we had dinner and everything, it was late, so my husband decided to wait and call on Tuesday.
Tuesday afternoon my husband called and spoke to Craig. He said he would have to find my husband's info and call him back.
Wednesday morning around 10 AM we still hadn't heard back so my husband called and was told we didn't qualify. My husband said he wanted his $100 and Craig said fine, come on it and get it.
Since my husband works across the 410 in the Corporate Square, he and a co-worker went to get his $100. They refused to give my husband his $100 and finally said they could get my husband in a car for 90% down (approx. $9900) and 1 yr financing for $351 a month.
We find that absurd, if we can afford $9900 down, I think we can afford the last $1100 without financing. They only told us this to keep from paying us our $100. To me, that is false advertisement. They had said on more than one occasion that we would get our $100, to just come in. Good thing my husband works across the street and he didn't waste the gas going back across down just to be lied to.
Red McCombs just sold the Vikings for several millions, you think he could keep his word by paying the $100 he owes us.
