In May of my fiancee drove my car to Vegas for her bachelorette party. The engine died on the way. Since my fiancee's friend had a friend who owned this auto shop, they called him and took it to his shop.
I ended up getting charged over $4000.
I got a motor that they claimed was 'new' but was actually a rebuilt. Shame on me for not knowing that Toyota does not sell 'new' engines directly.
They even changed the odometer because they claimed that since I have now changed the engine, I can put in a new odometer. That alone cost me a few hundred.
I also get stuck with a nice shiny new radiator, for $400.
And, to top it all off, they claimed that I could sue the shop that worked on my car the week before, that I could claim they had done shoddy work. As proof, they loaded the old engine (400 pounds heavy) into my trunk. I drove around with it for two months before giving up on the whole mess.
I found out later that in Southern California, Watanabe, a well known engine repair/installation shop, would have charged me only $2000 for the whole thing.
These people are true and complete con artists.
