I've been eating at fast-food restaurants all of my life. Sometimes the service is good; sometimes terrible; most times, in-between. I usually take it with a grain of salt, so to speak, because I used to work in the restaurant industry, and I understand the pressures the employees are working under. That being said however, I really have to take a few moments to detail my recent experience at the McDonald's, just off of Exit 13 on I-84, just east of Portland (the first Gresham exit). I had stopped there at 10:30 on a Sunday morning to grab a quick breakfast, between my shift as a morning radio D-J, and an 11:00 appointment at my office. My office is about 5 minutes down the road, so I figured I'd have plenty of time.
I didn't want to eat in my car, so I went inside to place my order at the counter. There were about a half-dozen customers, seated at tables, and another three, standing at the front, apparently waiting for their orders. The manager was at the cash register, taking the orders, and there was one customer ahead of me in line. After he had ordered, I stepped forward, and ordered a simple, two egg mcmuffin meal, paid my money, and stepped back to wait for my order.
After about five minutes, a family group if about six folks came in, and placed their order. About five minutes later, the gentleman who had ordered just ahead of me, was handed his order, which was a full pancake breakfast. Since I had now been waiting 10 minutes, for a primary menu item, I naturally assumed that I was about to receive my food.
But no; as the minutes continued to tick by, I noticed that, while my breakfast was not forthcoming, the employees continued to take orders from, and provide service to, the drive-up window. I did not think that I had been forgotten, as I noticed the manager several times look at my order receipt, which was still sitting on the counter.
Finally, after 20 minutes had passed, the manager called out the order for the family group who had ordered five minutes after me. At this point, I stepped up and asked why I had not received my order, since I had ordered before them.instead of answering me, she looked at me for a moment, and then turned and began shouting at her staff in Spanish (at this point, it seems the appropriate time to mention, that the manager, staff, and the family group, were all hispanic, and conversed with each other in Spanish); it probably would have appeared to an casual observer that she was dressing them down for the lack of service.
Unfortunately, despite the fact that I am about the whitest guy on the planet, I DO understand enough Spanish to know that what she was actually saying was "Get this ASSHOLE his food, and get him out of here!". Even if I hadn't understand the rest however, I would have known what the word "pendejo" means. Even then, if they had actually handed me my food order, I might have let it go.instead, they threw (literally) two egg mcmuffins in a sack, and tried to hand that to me; no hash browns, no drink!
I refused, and demanded my money back. They complied, and I left. Before I left however, I took down the phone number of the management company, which was posted on the premises. Although I called and left two separate messages, asking for a response, I never heard back from them.
All I can say is, DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS MCDONALD'S! It is owned and operated by racists, and in the long run, I'm glad I didn't actually eat there, since I have no doubt that this particular management would use rat meat for the canadian bacon, if they thought they could get away with it! Aparently they count on the fact that they have a prime location just off a freeway exit, and that most of their customers will be tourists who will never come back to this particular h*llhole anyway!
