During his 50 years as a restaurateur, Nick Nickolas has always been a gentleman.
And with gentlemanly grace, he has closed down Nick's Fishmarket at 150 E. Palmetto Park Road.
Dear customers, clients and friends, Nickolas says on the restaurant web site. The time comes when all good things must end. I had to make a very difficult decision to close the doors here at Nick's Fishmarket in Boca.
Documents from bankruptcy court show that Nickolas filed for Chapter 7, which is total dissolution of the entity.
We had a great run in Boca Raton, both at the Boca Resort and in our location here downtown, he said. We have enjoyed serving you, and we sincerely hope you enjoyed your visits with us.
Nickolas spent much of the past 20 years as food and beverage manager at the Boca Raton Resort & Club. He ventured out on his own with Nick's Fishmarket of Hawaii the same name he used for his dining spot at the Resort. He left the club after the property was sold to the Blackstone Group.
Nickolas' dining spot downtown was part of a developing restaurant row that stretches from Palmetto Road to Royal Palm Plaza.
The long-time restaurant operator opened Nick's Fishmarket of Hawaii in September. He has developed, operated and sold 33 Nick's restaurants in his lifetime, beginning with the first one he opened in Hawaii.
In the Chapter 7 filing, Nick's of Boca said it has between 50 and 99 creditors, between $1 million and $10 million in liabilities and less than $50,000 in assets.
In his goodbye, Nickolas said, For all of you who visited us at Nick's Fishmarket, thank you for your patronage. I know better than anyone that whatever successes I enjoyed in this business, I owe to you, and to the people who worked so hard with me.

Owner Nicholas Nickolas, did relocate to Monterey California where he took a position working for Pasadera Country Club as the Food and Beverage Director.
A search of public records does give the appearance that Mr. Nickolas has accumulated a mass of both personal and business debt into the multi-millions.
