My father allows me to use his Discover card for online school related purchases. A few nights ago, he said I had charged $79.95 to CIC* Credit Monitoring. I told him that I had not made any charges to his card in the past 60 days. He said he would send the statement "proving the charge was initiated by you."
In the meantime, I recalled filling out a "Free Credit Report" form on the SallieMae website but cancelling it when I read the fine print on the last page. I never placed the order. Nor did I ever receive a report. So I emailed SallieMae demanding a refund to my father's card. Apparently, my father isn't the only person victimized by this scam.
I told him tonight that I contacted by email the company and monies will be refunded or credited to his Discover. I now see that this had nothing to do with SallieMae's website or me. My father is retired and on a fixed income. He also now thinks I made a charge to his card without his okay. This makes us both unhappy.
I am also afraid that my bank account will be next since I have a Visa debit card. An unauthorized debit like that will really mess up my budget. I am permanently disabled and also on a fixed income. How can I recoup the monies for my dad and prove to him I had nothing to do with this? Also, can I prevent them from debiting my account?
I sincerely appreciate any suggestions that will reimburse my dad and get me off his sh* list. Thank you
