I am a Gold Delta Amex customer who received two emails recently offering to upgrade my current Gold card for better benefits and additional mile for usage. To make this story short, what the links actually do is to get another card approved for you so that you have TWO cards. What they don't tell you on line is that my GOLD card benefits had been improved and that I didn't need to do anything to get the new beneits. Now I will have to cancel the account so that there will be two reports to the credit reporting agencies which affects my credit negatively. I have spoken to three different departments at AMEX and none of them can help me for 24 hours. I have to call a fouth department tomorrow to cancel this card. All becuase they could not just write an honest email to current good customers telling them that they were getting better benefits. No, they had to wirte a very misleading email to get the customer to apply for another card rather than applying for an upgrade. I asked to be transferred to a supervior who could rectify the situation today, and was told that no one in AMEX could work on theis until 24 hours had passed. Totally unsatisfactory.
