Thank goodness for this site. I have just learned that I have joined the mass crowds who have been ripped off by these vultures.
I am in debt consolidation, so that's probably where they got my name - goodness knows I have not been applying for credit cards. The woman I spoke with (Shatara Morris) said that by paying my $199.99 one time membership fee, I would be able to build my credit again. That was the motivating factor in wanting to do this. The phone number I had phoned was 1-800-717-1278 (no reply) and got through on 1-702-256-3000. My $6,500 credit purchase limit was immediately upped to $8,500 with a generous cash advance allowance.
I gave my check and bank details over the phone for the $199.99. Upon reflection I realised there were major time discrepancies in what she originally told me, compared to the final "speech" rattled off over the phone. 6th sense got me looking on the internet, and voila! I found your site. I have just phoned my bank and put a stop payment on the check number, and was told to monitor my account on a daily basis to make sure they are not dipping their dirty fingers into my account by using another check number.
It was suggested I close that account, and open a new account - a great inconvenience to me. Why is there so little protection for the consumers from obvious sharks such as these? How sad.By the way, the other phone numbers Lady Shark gave me was Customer Service 1-800-731-0121, and Benefit Dept 1-800-279-6989. I am learning the hard way...
