FINDS big banks rip offs Richard Loland finds that big banks can and do rip you off California/N.Y

People considered moving accounts in the last year, but didn't do so because it was perceived as being too much of a hassle. Meanwhile, Sandy Weill — the man who was the architect 14 years ago of allowing the giant monster mega-banks to form in the United States — has now retracted his position. Now he basically says, "I was wrong, " and has called for splitting up the banks.in related news, a survey from the University of Chicago finds trust in big banks is at an all-time low. On the other hand, people trust small local community banks and overwhelming trust their credit unions. I saw a disturbing story about banking analyst who said he's gung ho for big bank stock, particularly Wells Fargo, because they have made a decision not to fix any customer problems. It's more profitable for them to let people stew and not waste money or employee time on fixing any customer
problems. The banks know people feel like it's too much trouble to give them the boot, and so they happily go along their way treating us like dirt. Consumer Reports has called for full account portability like they have in Britain to ease the transition when you want to move from one bank to another.

In the meantime, a lot of smaller banks and credit unions offer switch kits. Or you can get out your last 12 bank statements and see which drafts you have coming out of your account. Some drafts may only hit quarterly or once annually. Be sure to note them all.
