I just had a claim to check my AC unit. Colonial set up an appointment with the technician. The technician was very friendly and offered a lot of advice. When he went to check the Freon level he came back into the house, his cell phone in his hand and a look of bewilderment on his face. He said to me "do you that your warranty doesn't cover Freon?! I've never had a company not cover this and you need to call and double check."

So, I took his advice and while the continued to work on the unit I was on hold. The service man came BACK up to me and said "Mam, they ain't gonna cover the leak check either. Who are these people? I've never worked with ANY warranty company that won't cover these things."

I was finally put through to a manager and when I questioned them about the leak check and Freon I got a response that basically said "Well, you get what you pay for. You pay for the leak check and if something is broken we will fix it." I replied "So, you want ME to pay for a $400 warranty, a $45 service fee AND a $120 leak check?! What if nothing is found to be broken in the leak check? Then I'm out the $120 and y'all haven't done anything!" The guy I was speaking to wasn't apologetic or even empathetic. Quite honestly it seemed as though I interrupted his lunch.

Ironically, my warranty is up at the end of this month and will NOT be RENEWING with Colonial. Pay the extra $100 or so per year with the other companies because clearly they are the better end of the bargain.
