First off, this job advertises "Entry Level Manager Positions" which is suspect enough. However I am jobless right now and need a job badly. So I bit. Going to the first interview was a strike. The interview only took 5 minutes and the guy didn't even ask me anything worthwhile. I even asked him if he saw my resume and he skirted past that question. He did say that he liked what he saw and wanted to see me in the next couple of days. This second interview was supposed to be "observing" the managerial job and learning what it takes to be a manager. However there was little information given about what exactly would be done on this observation.
On some level I was a little excited, but my mind kept telling me "It was too easy". Anyway, I went to the next interview and waited almost an hour and a half to be called by the HR guy who handed me off to some other guy I'd never seen. Right then and there they told me I would be going out "into the field" to observe how they sell their products. They even wanted me to follow them to the "venue" in my own car using my own gas. I should have however, but decided to ride with them instead. That was another strike. What professional job opportunity doesn't let you know what to do to be prepared for the next job interview, then asks you to use your own resources?
Anyway, I feel stupid now for not getting out when I had the change. However I decided to ride it out just in case it was legit on some level. We got out to some gas station, they set up a table and started piling the merchandise on top. I'm sitting there with a weird expression and wondering "are these guys serious? They want me to observe them selling some products at a gas station?". Mind you I had business attire on as well which was quite awkward and uncomfortable outside. One of the "managers in training" kept babbling about how much money we could make doing this and how there was no selling involved, even though that's all they did. It was all just too fishy. At that point I called BS and decided I wanted to go back to the office. They informed me they couldn't do this since they were "selling" and that I'd have to wait an hour before they could take me back. Strike 3. At this point I was livid at how stupid I felt for falling for this, and at how unprofessional this all was. I however kept my composure, played along until they took me back to the office.
They told me I'd have to go back up to the office to fill out another form and have another interview with the head guy. Needless to say as soon as my feet hit the floor I got in my car and drove home. This was a huge waste of time and only further diminished my hope for mankind!
