I purchased a Money Card from Walmart which was sold as a prepaid debit card. I was assured I could get cash at ATMs. After correcctly entering my pin number and birth date via the computer registration link, the card still didn't work as a debit card and I was unable to get cash off the card if needed. When I tried to call customer service, I was told by the computer that I do not know my own birthdate! Because of the problems I had with the first card they sent me a replacement (and charged me $3) which I registered via a land line push button telephone—but it still doesn't work as advertised. I refuse to even try my new pin number because of programming errors on their end.
I talked to a friend about the problems I was having and he said to always have my card put through as a credit card. It works that way but I am still unable to get cash. Frankly, I feel the card is falsely advertised. I looked the card up on the net and it's backed by GE Retail Credit who, it appears, is directly linked to a software company. I suspect it's the software company who has fouled up the programming for the cards. Good luck to anyone who buys one. I will continue to deal with the card because it does allow me to pay my bills on line.
