Fee foe honoring a check

Our kid was handed a $5 personal gift by his grandma using a check drawn on Wells Fargo. We strolled in to the Wells Fargo next door on the road towards the mall to cash it simply to discover that there will be a $5 charge

Our lender, First Republic, WOULD NOT stoop this reduced!
