Dennis Duban owns the firm Duban Sattler cpa accounting in los angeles. For 25 years he did my personal and company tax returns. His methods seemed so simple, I spent no more than 15mins in his office. However his prices continually increased, even as I watched most of my professional friends struggle in their businesses, he seemed to border on extravagant, I figured I would soon look for a new accountant as his latest bill of $3500 dollars to do my personal taxes came as a shock. Then In 2007 as my rental business became very very slow and difficult. I got notice from him I was being audited.
My audit was a nightmare. All the creative actions of Dennis Duban came back to haunt me. But I was not prepared for the shock of the bill he gave me, its kept climbing till finally I said dennis, My business is not well, I will never be able to pay this. I want to meet with the auditor directly, my sister told me to do that also since I had not tried to do anything funny with the IRS. But dennis insisted I dont do this, it would make things much worse. He used fear to stop me. So, finally it was over, he charged me almost $30,000 I could not believe it. Also we lost the action to overturn the audit. So I also owed the IRS $70,000. I was so upset. I tried to make payments to the IRS and To Dennis, The IRS has been very helpful. DENNIS DUBAN has behaved horribly.
He said make payments of $500 to $1,000 till you get on your feet. I made payments of $1,000 per month, I missed three and then covered a returned check, my business was barely alive. Today April 14th after I requested many answers from Dennis as to how to deal with the IRS and had he filed my ext as I only had one day. His response? Is attached, see below, shocking and extremely unprofessional. I am filing a complaint with the gov agency that deals with accountants and advising the IRS to open back up my audit as I feel he did nothing. Its very strange he also threatens me with an ex employee of mine, truly just horrible actions which I never would have expected from my accountant of 25years
